PEIA to eliminate managed care in 19 counties - Charleston Daily Mail

The Public Employees Insurance Agency plans to stop offeringmanaged health care in 19 counties starting July 1.

PEIA Director Tom Susman said Carelink, a health maintenanceorganization, has only 468 current policyholders out of a total of22,816 in the 19 counties. PEIA was paying for most of the cost, hesaid.

Public employees in those counties will have to join the PEIAindemnity insurance plan, he said Tuesday.

Susman said managed care works better in urban areas, and in theNorthern Panhandle, where the Health Plan of the Upper Ohio Valleyhas been in operation for several years.
